The Put-Ons self-titled album, harkens back to the early days of New Wave. A time when such artists as Elvis Costello and the Kinks were able to speak of rejection in a tone that a mainstream artist would have a hard time conveying. The Put-Ons wrap all that desperation with bubble-wrap like, infectious sounds. Songs like Strung on Love have a manic energy that almost make you forget the nature of the lyrics. The vocals, which at times sound weak, often just add to the album's sense of desperation. Much like the boy who asks a girl to the dance for the first time, there are cracks in the delivery, but these imperfections can often speak to the actual human condition far better than something delivered at a perfect pitch.
